This soft, snuggly fabric insulates well to keep you toasty warm, while still being lightweight and comfortable. There's a hood, too, for additional warmth, and to add an air of mystery to your outfit. The color is a deep burgundy that can look almost black in low light.
This cloak measures 35" from the back of the neck to the bottom hem. The neck opening is 26" around. That's me in the pictures. For reference, I am 5'9" tall. This cloak will look good on almost anyone.
This is a full circle cloak. That means it has a lot of fabric in it. This is the type of cloak that makes otherwise staid and sober adults want to twirl around until they can no longer stand up straight. With a full-circle cloak, you can throw one side over your shoulder to keep in your body heat even more effectively.
Please be aware that there are some minor irregularities in the fabric, and that is reflected in the price (normally, this would be a $145 cloak, because of the amount of fabric and labor involved in its construction). Because the fabric is so dark, the irregularities are hard to spot. It's just that the nap of the fabric is not consistent in some areas.
If you have any questions, please ask, and I'll do my best to answer. If you are looking for something similar, but with different measurements, let's talk! Email me and tell me what you have in mind. What makes your cloaks so special?
Before any sewing occurs, the fabric is washed in hot water and dried on high heat. The same happens with any trims that will be used. I typically do not know the fabric content of the materials I work with, and doing this ensures that there will be no unpleasant surprises, like shrinking or fading, down the road when you wash your cloak.
The finishing touches are what it's all about! All seams are flat felled or French seamed, all hems are double rolled and double stitched, and all corners are mitered. Yes, it's a pain, and yes it takes longer to make it that way, but it means that you will not have any raw edges on your cloak that will ravel.
In short, I take a great deal of pride in each cloak I make, because I want it to be something you will wear and enjoy for years to come. These are not cheap costume pieces, meant to wear once and throw away. They are carefully crafted garments which will stand up to years of wear and tear.
Does this item come from a smoke-free, pet-free home? Smoke-free? Most definitely. Pet-free? Absolutely not. Every cloak is washed once it is completed and ready to be shipped. But if you have super severe allergies, please keep in mind that my cats do like to "help" me as I sew.
