Silver Heart Poison Ring

- Our sterling silver Heart Poison Ring has a hidden surprise! The hinged top flips up to reveal a secret compartment below. We don't recommend it for actual murder and mayhem, but if you enjoy out-of-the-ordinary jewelry, this certainly fits the bill.

Poison rings are also sometimes called locket rings, box rings, or pillbox rings. They seem to have originated in the far East, possibly India. It wasn't until the the Middle Ages, however, that the rings were introduced to western culture. The Borgia family in Renaissance Italy, and other such unsavory characters, are supposed to have employed poison rings in their search for political power.

What can I out in my poison ring?
DO NOT put anything illegal, dangerous, or unsanitary in your poison ring! Come on, folks- we didn't really need to tell you that, did we? Some of the best suggestions we've had from our customers have included a tiny picture of a loved one, or a bit of their hair, a bit of solid perfume or lip gloss, or a potent flavoring like ghost pepper powder (you only need a little to make your tongue burn!). Just keep in mind that the opening is very small. Its best use is simply as jewelry you can play with.

My grandmother had a ring just like this!
Boy, if I had a nickel for every time someone told me that! Honestly, I think people have been saying the same thing all the way back to medieval times. Poison rings seem to be one of those things that has to be rediscovered every couple of generations. But hey… just think how much fun you'll have showing this ring off to your grandkids!

I bought this ring after my beloved 15 year old cat died, and I keep a tiny bit of his fur inside it. I always have a part of him with me and that brings me great comfort. The ring is beautifully made, simple in style and not too big. I never take it off. It's perfect for me.
