Some of us were meant to live in a cottage in the forest, gathering mushrooms and fragrant herbs, and befriending woodland creatures, while the new moon lights our path among the trees. If you've always fancied yourself as the perfect hedge witch, perhaps this pendant is for you.
The crescent moon is carved from bone which has been tea-dyed for a mellow, antiqued look. Sterling silver vines curl across the face of the moon, and a patch of mushrooms is nestled at its base. Delightfully witchy, and just the thing for adding a touch of whimsy to your aesthetic.
The Mushroom Moon Pendant is made of sterling silver and carved bone. It measures approximately 1 1/2" tall, including the bail, and comes with an 18" sterling silver chain.
What kind of bone is used in this pendant? The crescent moon in this piece is carved from bone from domestic cattle. In Bali, they use the entirety of the cow. Nothing is wasted and cows are most certainly not killed for the sake of jewelry! This is the ultimate in recycling.
Why are mushrooms thought to be magical? Beyond their use in spiritual and religious practices, mushrooms have strong ties to the realms of fairies and elves. Have you ever come across a "fairy ring" of mushrooms in the grass? They seems to spring up overnight and disappear almost as quickly. Folklore says that these are portals to another world full of magic and enchantment.
