Yes, we’re open for business! While we miss seeing our customers face-to-face, we're still here for you. We’re not going to let some nasty virus get in the way of your shopping. Orders are being shipped daily.
Admittedly, our stock is a bit low on a few items. Some of our suppliers are still struggling with production and transportation issues. But we are trying to keep the website up-to-date and clearly marked, so you know which items may be delayed. And we are working to fill holes as quickly as possible. Thank you for understanding.
If you love the look of layers, this is the cloak for you- a combination cloak and capelet that will stand out in any crowd. This cloak is more of a rusty red or tomato color than a true red. The fabric is definitely a synthetic of some sort. It washes well, and has just a bit of shine on the outer surface while the inside is soft and snuggly. For a cloak with this much fabric in it (full circles for both layers), it is remarkably lightweight.
The base layer is a full-circle cloak measuring 45" from neck to bottom hem, and the top layer is another complete circle, measuring 20" long. The neck opening is 23.5" around.
It's hard to see in the pictures, but the clasp is the same sort that is used on our other cloaks- handmade from work-hardened copper wire. Before any sewing occurs, the fabric is washed in hot water and dried on high heat. The same happens with any trims that will be used. I typically do not know the fabric content of the materials I work with, and doing this ensures that there will be no unpleasant surprises, like shrinking or fading, down the road when you wash your cloak.
The finishing touches are what it's all about! All seams are French seamed, all hems are double rolled and double stitched, and all corners are mitered. Yes, it's a pain, and yes it takes longer to make it that way, but it means that you will not have any raw edges on your cloak that will ravel.
In short, I take a great deal of pride in each cloak I make, because I want it to be something you will wear and enjoy for years to come. These are not cheap costume pieces, meant to wear once and throw away. They are carefully crafted garments which will stand up to years of wear and tear.
Does this item come from a smoke-free, pet-free home? Smoke-free? Most definitely. Pet-free? Absolutely not. Every cloak is washed once it is completed and ready to be shipped. But if you have super severe allergies, please keep in mind that my cats do like to "help" me as I sew.
