Sometimes a pop of color is exactly what you need to keep you warm and comfy in chilly weather. So many of our cloaks are somber browns and greys, it was a real pleasure to stitch up this beauty. The fabric is soft and cotton-y feeling.,although I don't know the exact fiber content. The surface is gently textured, giving the cloak a puckered, rustic look that would work well in both historical and fantasy settings.
This is not a particularly heavy fabric, so you won't want to rely on it in bitter weather, but it is downright perfect for blustery fall days that call for a bit of magic.
This cloak has a hood, to protect you from inclement weather, or to conceal your identity as you lurk mysteriously in the shadows.
This cloak measures 45 1/2" from the back of the neck to the bottom hem. The neck opening is 23 1/2" around. This cloak is shown on a 6-foot-tall mannequin.
This is a full circle cloak. That means it has a lot of fabric in it. Yards and yards and yards of fabric, in fact. This is the type of cloak that makes otherwise staid and sober adults want to twirl around until they can no longer stand up straight.
We know how hard it is to get a feel for a fabric, just from a description on a website, so we'd like to offer an alternative: Order a sample, and we'll mail you a 5" square of the fabric that was used to make this cloak. This way, you can see the details for yourself- the exact color, weight, texture, etc.
Just keep in mind that most of the cloaks we make are one-of-a-kind pieces. All sales are first-come, first-served. If you have your heart set on a particular piece, it might be best to go ahead and make your purchase immediately, knowing that you can return the cloak if it is not exactly what you are looking for.
What makes your cloaks so special? Before any sewing occurs, the fabric is washed in hot water and dried on high heat. The same happens with any trims that will be used. I typically do not know the fabric content of the materials I work with, and doing this ensures that there will be no unpleasant surprises, like shrinking or fading, down the road when you wash your cloak.
The finishing touches are what it's all about! All seams are flat felled or French seamed, all hems are double rolled and double stitched, and all corners are mitered. Yes, it's a pain, and yes it takes longer to make it that way, but it means that you will not have any raw edges on your cloak that will ravel.
In short, I take a great deal of pride in each cloak I make, because I want it to be something you will wear and enjoy for years to come. These are not cheap costume pieces, meant to wear once and throw away. They are carefully crafted garments which will stand up to years of wear and tear.
Does this item come from a smoke-free, pet-free home? Smoke-free? Most definitely. Pet-free? Absolutely not. Every cloak is washed once it is completed and ready to be shipped. But if you have super severe allergies, please keep in mind that my cats do like to "help" me as I sew.
Beautifully done! Nice material and weight. Very pleased!
