Two for one! This listing actually includes two pieces of clothing- a full circle cloak, and a matching hood. They can be worn together or separately, as the occasion calls for. Whether you are a wizard or a warrior, this is a great way to make your outfit more flexible and appropriate for the occasion.
The neat thing about this fabric is that the outside has a soft, brushed finish, almost like suede, while the reverse side of the fabric is smoother, and slightly different in color, so that it almost looks like the cloak is lined, although you are really only wearing one layer of fabric. This fabric is relatively lightweight, so this is a cloak best suited to mild temperatures or indoor use. The fabric is a synthetic, but is neutral enough to pass the "10-foot-rule", if you wish to use it for all but the most stringent historical re-enactments.
This cloak measures 47" from the back of the neck to the bottom hem. The neck opening is 23" around. This matching hood has a long, pointy "pixie style" tail, to make you appear magical and mysterious.
My husband makes the clasps for my cloaks, handworking the copper wire, and work hardening it as he goes, to make each piece as durable as it is beautiful.
This is a full circle cloak. That means it has a lot of fabric in it. This is the type of cloak that makes otherwise staid and sober adults want to twirl around until they can no longer stand up straight.
What makes your cloaks so special? Before any sewing occurs, the fabric is washed in hot water and dried on high heat. The same happens with any trims that will be used. I typically do not know the fabric content of the materials I work with, and doing this ensures that there will be no unpleasant surprises, like shrinking or fading, down the road when you wash your cloak.
The finishing touches are what it's all about! All seams are flat felled or French seamed, all hems are double rolled and double stitched, and all corners are mitered. Yes, it's a pain, and yes it takes longer to make it that way, but it means that you will not have any raw edges on your cloak that will ravel.
In short, I take a great deal of pride in each cloak I make, because I want it to be something you will wear and enjoy for years to come. These are not cheap costume pieces, meant to wear once and throw away. They are carefully crafted garments which will stand up to years of wear and tear.
Does this item come from a smoke-free, pet-free home? Smoke-free? Most definitely. Pet-free? Absolutely not. Every cloak is washed once it is completed and ready to be shipped. But if you have super severe allergies, please keep in mind that my cats do like to "help" me as I sew.
