So warm, so soft, so snuggly - it's like wearing a hug from your favorite friend. It is loosely woven, and very thick and heavy. The color is so hard to describe. It is an irregular blend of cream and a light brownish mauve. From a distance, it looks like a solid color, with just a hint of a purplish cast to it. It drapes and moves beautifully, with no stiffness or scratchiness.
To make it extra special, I've added a "fur" collar. It's fake fur, of course. No animals were harmed in the making of the cloak. But it feels absolutely luxurious. Unlike the rest of the cloak, which can be washed safely, the collar will need to be removed before washing, so for your convenience, it is attached with safety pins. The pins are invisible when the cloak is being worn, but they make removing and re-attaching the collar a breeze.
This cloak measures 44 1/2" from the back of the neck to the bottom hem. The neck opening is 26" around. That's me in the pictures. For reference, I'm 5'9" tall. This cloak will work best for someone who's on the tall side.
This is a full circle cloak. That means it has a lot of fabric in it. This is the type of cloak that makes otherwise staid and sober adults want to twirl around until they can no longer stand up straight. With a full-circle cloak, you can throw one side over your shoulder to keep in your body heat even more effectively. The only drawback to full circle cloaks is that they are also heavier. Just something to keep in mind when you are making your choice.
If you have any questions, please ask, and I'll do my best to answer. If you are looking for something similar, but with different measurements, let's talk! Email me and tell me what you have in mind.
What makes your cloaks so special?
Before any sewing occurs, the fabric is washed in hot water and dried on high heat. The same happens with any trims that will be used. I typically do not know the fabric content of the materials I work with, and doing this ensures that there will be no unpleasant surprises, like shrinking or fading, down the road when you wash your cloak.
The finishing touches are what it's all about! All seams are flat felled or French seamed, all hems are double rolled and double stitched, and all corners are mitered. Yes, it's a pain, and yes it takes longer to make it that way, but it means that you will not have any raw edges on your cloak that will ravel.
In short, I take a great deal of pride in each cloak I make, because I want it to be something you will wear and enjoy for years to come. These are not cheap costume pieces, meant to wear once and throw away. They are carefully crafted garments which will stand up to years of wear and tear.
Does this item come from a smoke-free, pet-free home? Smoke-free? Most definitely. Pet-free? Absolutely not. Every cloak is washed once it is completed and ready to be shipped. But if you have super severe allergies, please keep in mind that my cats do like to "help" me as I sew.
