Plain and simple, and oh-so-versatile. This half-circle cloak will let your true self shine, whether you are a wizard or a warrior, a heathen or a hobbit. The fabric used in this cloak is upholstery weight, with a bit of a stiff hand. That is to say. it holds its shape so well that it actually stands out away from the body just a bit when you are at rest. Great for looking formal and spiffy, but not as soft and snuggly as some of our other options. On the other hand, if you are looking for something that will hold up to lots of wear and tear and still look wonderful, look no further!
The fabric reads as a solid deep red from any distance, but up close, you can see that it actually has narrow stripes of red and dark grey. And best of all? This cloak has pockets! Two deep pockets are located just where your hands fall naturally, to hold any small sundries while you are busy adventuring.
This cloak measures 40" from the back of the neck to the bottom hem. The neck opening is 24 1/2" around.
My husband makes the clasps for my cloaks, handworking the copper wire, and work hardening it as he goes, to make each piece as durable as it is beautiful.
This is a half-circle cloak. This means it uses less fabric to make, so it is considerably cheaper than a full-circle would be. It also does not weigh as much as a full-circle. But because there is less fabric, it will not keep you as warm. Just something to keep in mind when you are making your choice.
What makes your cloaks so special?
Before any sewing occurs, the fabric is washed in hot water and dried on high heat. The same happens with any trims that will be used. I typically do not know the fabric content of the materials I work with, and doing this ensures that there will be no unpleasant surprises, like shrinking or fading, down the road when you wash your cloak.
The finishing touches are what it's all about! All seams are flat felled or French seamed, all hems are double rolled and double stitched, and all corners are mitered. Yes, it's a pain, and yes it takes longer to make it that way, but it means that you will not have any raw edges on your cloak that will ravel.
In short, I take a great deal of pride in each cloak I make, because I want it to be something you will wear and enjoy for years to come. These are not cheap costume pieces, meant to wear once and throw away. They are carefully crafted garments which will stand up to years of wear and tear.
Does this item come from a smoke-free, pet-free home? Smoke-free? Most definitely. Pet-free? Absolutely not. Every cloak is washed once it is completed and ready to be shipped. But if you have super severe allergies, please keep in mind that my cats do like to "help" me as I sew.
Beautifully done! Nice material and weight. Very pleased!
