This fascinating pendant is an example of a "Memento Mori", harkening back to Roman, medieval, and even Victorian times, when such pieces served as a reminder that Life is fleeting, and Death comes to all men. One side of the pendant shows a sleek and robust raven in the prime of life. Flipping the pendant to the reverse, however, shows a very different scene- the bird's withered and skeletal remains. The symbolism is not necessarily gloomy. It simply cautions us to live life so fully that we have no regrets at its end. The pendant measures 1 1/2" tall and is made of base metal. The chain is steel, and measures 37" long.
